Hi, I'm Sophie

I'm a UX designer with backgrounds in law and violin teaching, modern design and holiday letting.

Strange combination? Not really - most of my work has been about analysing a problem, looking for a solution, testing it and iterating, whether that's a question of how to enforce a contract, teach a group class, sell a vintage light or let a house during the credit crunch....

As a lawyer I know:
  • how to work under time pressure,
  • how to work as part of a team,
  • how to assimilate large amounts of information and bring it together into a cogent story,
  • about attention to detail.
As a violin teacher I realise:
  • that everyone is different and you can't assume anything: you have to observe, listen and make things work for them as they really are,
  • the value of collaboration/other peoples' ideas,
  • that fun is a great motivator when it comes to accomplishing difficult tasks (particularly for children, but also for adults),
  • that it's complex but important and rewarding to find solutions for all kinds of different people, particularly those dealing with physical, psychological or other challenges,
  • it's essential to keep thinking of new solutions, testing them and iterating!

At the weekend you will find me at a fleamarket, in the cinema, cooking or trying to practise my Dutch.

I'm a keen collaborator and I'm ready to work, so if you think I can contribute to your project, give me a shout. I'd love to hear from you.
